Tortuguero is one of the rainiest areas in the country, between 5,000 and 6,000 mm a years,Two types of rain can be distingushed: the short-livedlocal downpours that are the most frequent, and the characteristic Caribbeanstorms that last up to 15 days. The latter are caused by the trade winds from the north and northwest.

ATTRACTIVE

In this place, rivers, canals and lagoons abound, which are usedby both residents and tourist to navigate through the park, where nature lovers can admire the exuberant flora  and fauna of thr place.

One of its main attractions is the spawning of sea turtles, such as the gigantic leatherback loggerhead and the hawksbill turtle, whichis the smallest and is considered endangered due to the value ofis shell, used in crafts.

Tortuguero National Park was declared on September 24th 1970 and its limits have been modified on three occasions( 1980 , 1995 and 1998). its extensions has increased from 64,701.45 to 76,937 hectares. of these, 50,284 are marine  and 26,653 are terrestial.

in the case of territoril area, 99%is used for absolute protection pf resourses and 1% as site of visitation. the marine area is dedicate to 100% absolute conversation.

Tortuguero National Park is located norteast of Costa Rican territory and is  one  of the main tourist icons of Costa Rica  since it is internatonally recognized  for protecting the most  important green turtles nesting beach in the western  Hemisphere.

Means of Trasnport.
